Terms and Conditions

1. Publication Details

Science Victoria is a magazine for the discussion and promotion of scientific topics of relevance to the state of Victoria. It is normally published 11 times each year.

2. 12-month Bundle (“Subscription”)

A single 12-month bundle (non-renewing 12-month “subscription”), entitles you to receive 11 consecutive editions of Science Victoria, delivered as one copy of Science Victoria magazine each month (except for January) to your chosen address in Victoria.

Your subscription is non-transferable, except where it is bought for someone else as a gift, which can be done by nominating a different delivery name and address. For gifted subscriptions, the subscription is non-transferable by the recipient (i.e., they cannot pass their subscription to another party), and the purchaser remains bound by these terms and conditions.

3. Orders

Purchases can be made online at https://rsv.org.au/shop, or in person at 8 La Trobe Street, Melbourne. Your order is an offer to buy from us which, if accepted by us, constitutes a binding contract. This offer will only be considered accepted after we have sent confirmation of your order via email or post. The Royal Society of Victoria will not be responsible for any failed delivery of such receipt where you have provided incorrect or incomplete contact information.

We reserve the right to cancel any subscription at any point, and are not obliged to provide a reason for doing so. By purchased a subscription, you confirm that you are aged at least 18 years old, and can provide proof of this on request. You further confirm that you are either the owner, or have the explicit permission of the owner, of the payment details you provide.

4. Commencement date of subscriptions

Your subscription will commence from the date you provide first payment. E.g., if you purchase in August, you will first receive the August edition. For purchases made in January, you will receive the December edition.

5. Delivery

Postage will be attempted from the third week of the month. In the event you experience significant delivery delays (i.e., more than 4 weeks after the third week of the publishing month), please contact the Royal Society of Victoria.

Postage is completed using Australia Post. Magazines are sent as unregistered letters to keep the postage costs to a minimum.

Subscriptions are currently only available for delivery within the state of Victoria.

6. Payment

You agree to pay the price for single issues or subscription/bundles as shown in the advertisement or promotion for the product. You must provide us with complete and accurate payment information at the time you subscribe. You will be asked to make payment in AUD.

Payment for your purchase can be made via the methods available at https://rsv.org.au/checkout/. By submitting your preferred payment details, you confirm that you have the express prior permission of the payment account owner.

7. Renewals of Subscription

Subscriptions to Science Victoria are currently offered only on a single (non-recurring) payment basis.

We may remind you by email or by post (to the address given to us by you) when your subscription is due to expire, and invite you to renew your subscription. If you decide to renew your subscription, you will need to purchase a new 12-month (11 issue) subscription at https://rsv.org.au/shop. You are under no obligation to accept such invitations to renew.

8. Refunds and Cancellation

If you wish to cancel an active subscription, please contact the Royal Society of Victoria by email or by phone.

Please note that a cancellation request means you cancel only future charges associated with your subscription. Once cancelled no further debits will be made on the account and the customer’s account will simply expire at the end of the billing period for which payment has already been received.

For 12-month (11 issue) upfront subscriptions, this will mean that shipment of magazines will cease, and there will be no future further debits made on your account.

The Royal Society of Victoria reserves the right to suspend or cancel your subscription at any time in its absolute discretion. In the event that The Royal Society of Victoria cancels your subscription you will receive a pro rata refund for the balance of the term on your Upfront Subscription.

9. Our responsibility to you

We are under a legal duty to supply goods that are in conformity with our contract with you, however we shall not be responsible for any failure by us to perform our obligations to you in relation to your subscription where this failure is caused by circumstances beyond our control.

We shall not be responsible for any failure to deliver your subscription if you have supplied us with an incorrect address for delivery. We reserve the right to dispose of incorrectly addressed envelopes and their contents without an obligation to refund you or any other person if they are returned to us and despite efforts to contact you, we do not receive correct address details.

Our liability to you in connection with your subscription will not exceed the total subscription fees charged for your current subscription period or, in the event of a rolling subscription, the total fees paid by you for that subscription to date. We exclude all other liability to you to the extent permitted by law. Our exclusions of liability shall not apply to any damages arising from death or personal injury caused by our negligence or that of any of our employees or agents.

You may have statutory consumer rights that apply to your subscription which cannot be limited, excluded, or modified. Nothing in these terms and conditions limits, excludes, or modifies any such consumer rights.
