Description

150 year old original prints of Blandowski’s named fishes of the River Murray (200 copies only available printed in 1857) (Unframed)

In 1857, William Blandowski presented his paper “Recent discoveries in natural history on the Lower Murray” to the Royal Society of Victoria (at the time known as the Philosophical Institute of Victoria).

His paper was published in the Transactions of the Philosophical Institute of Victoria. His preliminary paper caused great controversy as he named some of the fish, which he described in unflattering terms, after significant members of the Philosophical Institute committee including Dr Richard Eades (Mayor of Melbourne), and Rev Dr John Ignatius Bleasdale (later a President of the Royal Society of Victoria).

The Royal Society of Victoria presents a limited release of the original 150 year old print as it was intended to appear in the 1857 Transactions (numbered 001 to 200).
