Professor John Lovering AO was Professor of Geology, Dean of Science and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University of Melbourne and Vice-Chancellor of the Flinders University of South Australia. After an active research career in geological and space sciences he became President of the Murray-Darling Basin Commission and Chair of the Victorian Environment Conservation Council.
